Mark Trewren lives and works in Bristol, UK.
A keen artist and writer from a very young age, Mark has produced several illustrated books for children and poetry and has undertaken commissioned work for various companies and individuals over the last twenty years.
As well as pursuing a creative path, Mark has a long association with the disability movement and works in the local community alongside people with learning disabilities, mental health conditions and physical disabilities. Mark is physically disabled himself and is passionate with regards to equal rights and particularly with accessible information for all.
Much of Mark's fine art output is concerned with nature and the environment around us, and he supports several charities and organisations with a particular emphasis on bird life and its conservation in the UK and overseas. As an artist, Mark is striving to emulate how varied and beautiful our surroundings can be with an emphasis on colour, patterns, shapes and textures of the natural world that is not only visually appealing but also spiritually enriching.
Since the early 1990's I have been writing poems and songs that reflect what is going on in both my life and others around me. In 2012, I decided to compile and illustrate my favourite poems as well as new ones recently written.
In terms of graphic design, much of Mark's work is concerned with accessibility and producing work that is clear, concise and with the minimum of clutter. Mark is strongly of the opinion that the message of a piece is far more important than any flashy design elements, and what elements are used should compliment the message rather than overshadow or confuse it. There are many people with low literacy abilities, but they still have the right to be able to access information and make informed choices.
Each project requires its own individual approach. Mark has experience in both natural media, such as gouache/acrylic paints, coloured pencil, pen and ink, mixed media, and photographic and digital media, with fifteen years of experience using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and many other digital creative tools.
